Acromioclavicular joint injuries

The joint between the outer end of the collar bone (clavicle) and shoulder blade (scapula) can be injured by a fall on the point of the shoulder that can disrupt the joint and tear the ligaments out of place. Symptoms can include pain over the cape of the shoulder and the arm feeling unsupported. There may also be a loss of shoulder movement and a prominent outer end of the clavicle which can be seen and felt as a step or bump. Treatment can include anti-inflammatory medication, physiotherapy or surgery to reconstruct the ligaments. Using screws or grafts may be necessary in more severe cases.
