Pain Psychology

Alleviating on-going pain is not always a straightforward process and there are often associated issues with pain such as emotional, behavioural and psychological factors as well as the physical symptoms. Pain psychology is the method of helping patients cope with pain and these associated factors through cognitive behavioural therapy, management and mindfulness. Pain psychologists work primarily with individual patients, but will often work closely with other healthcare professionals within a pain unit with an aim to collaborate and help patients work towards improving their quality of life.

Every individual pain case is different and the pain unit at The London Orthopaedic Clinic will tailor your sessions to your specific needs whether this is a few sessions with our pain psychologist or a more long-term treatment plan. Our pain psychologist can help to break unhelpful cycles that may have developed in relation to pain such as anxiety, depression and insomnia through relaxation techniques and holistic approaches.
