Mr. R. Lloyd Williams MB BS FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Foot and Ankle Specialist
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr R. Lloyd Williams is a Consultant Orthopaedic
Surgeon Specialising in Foot and Ankle Disorders.
He also treats general trauma.
“Graduating from St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical
College in 1986, I undertook junior surgical posts at Barts
and West Middlesex University Hospital before becoming
a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1990.
Having completed a six year higher surgical training
programme at the Royal National Orthopaedic, Middlesex
and University College Hospitals in London, I gained the
FRCS(Orth) accreditation exam in 1996. Subsequently,
I undertook Visiting Fellowships in Dublin, Ireland and
Houston Medical Centre, Texas studying specifically
Foot and Ankle Surgery.
In 1997, I became Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at
the University College London Hospitals NHS Trust
specialising in Foot and Ankle Disorders and was until
2001 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to Saracens RFC.
I am a Fellow of the British, Irish, European and American
Foot and Ankle Societies and have published research
papers in my field of expertise in the European and
American Medical Literature. I was Convenor of the Royal
National Orthopaedic Hospital Foot and Ankle Surgery
Course from 1999 to 2007 together with faculty
membership of various national and international foot
and ankle surgery teaching courses and seminars.
In full time private practice since 2004, my special
interests include forefoot reconstruction for hallux
valgus (bunions) and correction of hindfoot deformity
and arthritis. Previously a keen rugby player, I have
extensive experience in the management of foot
and ankle disorders in professional and amateur
athletes and sportsmen including football, rugby union
and league players. I currently am the Consultant
Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Royal Ballet Company,
English National Ballet and Central School of Ballet
and regularly attend to young ballerinas and dancers
with injuries sustained during training and performance.
I have regular operating lists at The Princess Grace
Hospital, London, W1, and hold Outpatient clinics my
Private Consulting Rooms at 30 Devonshire St, W1
and The City of London Medical Centre, London, EC3.”
“I always wanted to be a surgeon and, when experiencing
my eight week orthopaedics rotation as a medical student,
knew immediately that the mechanical and technical nature
of the surgery was the field of healthcare that was right
for me!”
“I was fascinated by the range of pathology and
treatments available in disorders of the foot and ankle,
but as a training surgeon, noted also that the foot and
ankle was something of a Cinderella speciality, which
needed more Consultant input.”
“Being in full time private practice, I can offer more time
to my patients with each receiving dedicated and personal
continuity of care. I have 11 years of Consultant level
experience in this field and I am fortunate to have found a
vocation which I thoroughly enjoy, allowing me to combine
and fully utilise my knowledge and aptitude to hopefully
make a difference to someone's life.”
“Acceptance by my peers and colleagues as an expert
in my field, having many of my papers published in the
medical literature and being invited to lecture are
always gratifying. As a keen sports fan working with
Saracens RFC and various ballet companies has also
been a great honour.”
“My wife and I have a 13 year old daughter and we enjoy
cycling as a family, foreign holidays and spending quality
time together. I work out in the gym and follow most
sports, especially rugby and cricket, at international
and club level.”
