"Under graduate training at Newcastle University.
Post graduate training in Glasgow, London and the
United States. My initial interest in hand surgery
was stimulated by Athol Parkes and my post graduate
training included a Christine Kleinert Fellowship in Hand
Surgery at Louisville, Kentucky which is regarded by
many as the premier Hand Surgery training centre in
the world. Following this I was Clinical Instructor
in Plastic Surgery at Duke University where I had
a particular interest in microsurgical reconstructions.
Whilst there I was awarded 1st prize in the Resident
competition in the United States in 1979."
"Upon my return to the UK I was awarded the
Pulvertarft prize for hand surgery. I practised for 25
years at Mount Vernon Hospital developing a hand
surgery service and for 20 years at Great Ormond
Street specialising in congenital hand surgery. I have
a particular interest in Dupuytren’s contracture, nerve
injuries and compression, osteoarthritis and
rheumatoid arthritis of the hand and congenital hand
surgery and
have published over 60 articles in Peer
Review Journals,
17 chapters and text books and
