Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a common condition in which bones become weak and brittle increasing the risk of fractures diagnosed using a bone density scanner called a DEXA scanner. This condition is usually seen in patients over the age of 35 and is more likely to occur in women after the first few years of the menopause.

Management of this condition is often co-ordinated by a Rheumatologist with conservative treatment and prevention such as maintaining a healthy diet, physiotherapy, exercise and supplements or medication.
