A common form of healing is scarring which affects function and is accompanied by increased risk of further damage. Current therapies to treat these conditions involve long term conservative treatments that do not change the intrinsically poor-healing properties. Given this situation, biologically based strategies involving the stimulation of cell activities through the delivery of Growth Factors have attracted considerable interest.
Platelet Rich Plasma is derived by placing a small amount of your blood in a filtration system which separates red blood cells from platelets. The high concentration of platelets (containing a high concentration of Growth Factor) is then injected into the injured tissue which initiates the body's natural healing response.
After treatment a prescription for pain medication will be given for pain control overnight.
NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICATION (SUCH AS IBUPROFEN AND NEUROFEN) SHOULD NOT BE USED AFTER TREATMENT. However cold therapy/icing of the affected area may be used.
Stretching and strengthening exercise program will be prescribed.
